Chrysler’s parent company, FCA, is partnering with Google and their Self-Driving Car Project to integrate the tech giant’s autonomous technology into the automaker’s 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans.
This is a big boon for both Google and Chrysler, giving both companies a way to expand their various programs. The all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is one of the most talked about new cars to come out this year, garnering tons of praise and awards from fans and critics around the U.S.
It’s no wonder then that Google decided to expand its own autonomous program with the Pacifica. Chrysler will be in charge of outfitting the minivan with the necessary engineering to accommodate the new technology, while Google will provide the “suite of sensors and computers” that the minivan will need to drive independently.
“Working with Google provides an opportunity for FCA to partner with one of the world’s leading technology companies to accelerate the pace of innovation in the automotive industry,” said Sergio Marchionne, Chief Executive Officer, FCA. “The experience both companies gain will be fundamental to delivering automotive technology solutions that ultimately have far-reaching consumer benefits.”
We are very excited to see Chrysler work with Google on this terrific new project. Google will begin testing the new self-driving minivan soon, so stay tuned to our blog to find out more about what you can expect from this thrilling new project in the coming months.
