The 6.2-liter supercharged V8 Hellcat engine is one of the fastest street legal engine ever produced. Rating at an astonishing 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque, the Hellcat engine has become FCA US’ pride and joy.
The newly renamed automaker started the new powerhouse engine out in two of its popular sports car models, but now it looks like Jeep - who is under the FCA umbrella - wants to use it in one of their own popular models: the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Like other cars from the automaker, the Grand Cherokee already has an SRT version that currently sports a 475 horsepower 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine. It's a pretty powerful SUV, but the folks over at Jeep think they can do one better. Speculation about the new Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat came with the news of Jeep trademarking the name "Trackhawk," which riffs off the name of the current Grand Cherokee Trailhawk.
Style-wise the new superpowered SUV would look similar to the current SRT, but with Hellcat badging, more air vents and a wider, lower-set grille. This is all conjecture at the point, but there seems to be serious discussions going on about what it will take to create this powerful, one of a kind Jeep.
