The Chrysler Corporation began in 1925. It would become an automaker known for its luxury designs and innovative engineering. For example, early on in its lifetime, Chrysler changed the design of their wheels. The entire industry ended up following that design because it enhanced the safety of automobiles.
Chrysler's Rich and Diverse History
Like other automakers at the time, Chrysler wanted to have automobiles that more Americans could afford. That was the reason they brought out the Plymouth in 1928. The Plymouth would be a major player in the early days and become even more luxurious as time went by. Other early Chrysler models included the Valiant and the Imperial.
Chrysler helped to defend the country during WWII by producing things the U.S. military needed to succeed. By the 1960s, Chrysler was so successful that they began selling automobiles in Europe. Maybe Chrysler's biggest contribution to the American driver is the introduction of the minivan. Its first models were the Plymouth Voyager and the Dodge Caravan. Families everywhere are thankful to Chrysler for that; they still make minivans today.
Chrysler Group has been involved in many other brands as well. Fiat gained a 58% stake in Chrysler Group in 2009 and has been involved in its evolution. Still, later in the day (2021), Chrysler was acquired by Stellantis North America.
Even more important than who's been a part of Chrysler's legacy is what that legacy is. The brand has always strived to make luxury automobiles affordable to the average American, something that's more important now than ever. Nice things don't always have to cost as much as humanly possible. Chrysler continues this legacy of developing smart, luxurious vehicles that deliver dependable performance. That goal has always been met for Chrysler, and it never changes even today.
