STARS Overview

The heartwarming mission of STARS is simple. They want to help people with developmental and intellectual disabilities by offering activities, care, and a safe environment to cultivate meaning in their lives. To do so, they create day programs and employment training opportunities that reach out to folks who need a little extra help getting through life. As they so correctly point out, people with these types of disabilities spread joy everywhere they go. They're often "joyous" people who want to do good with their lives, just like any other person. STARS gives these special people the means to accomplish their goal.

What Is STARS About?

STARS has multiple programs that benefit people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They offer home and community-based services (HBCS), day training for adults, a work center program, and even employment services for those people who want to work and make an impact on society. The people behind STARS are compassionate, focused, and committed to the people they help.

As they point out, they become like a second family to the people who need them. Families of people who have intellectual disabilities are drawn to STARS because they've got a long legacy of strength in Scottsdale. Their Resource Guide is an excellent place to learn more about STARS and the many things they do for people in this community. They're also branching out into other communities to reach an even greater community of people.

They have on-site work training and day training programs. However, if your loved one is unable to travel or get out of the house, there's no need to worry. STARS can still help them. Thanks to their HCBS program, STARS professionals and volunteers come right to your home and help your loved one begin training and get more out of each day. Some of their home-based services include Respite, Habilitation, and Homemaker services. They'll take the time to get to know your loved one - or you - and work with you to decide which programs are right for all involved. Many people choose to participate in more than one of their programs, as each program gives still more enrichment from life.
