Meet Zaki, a one-year-old Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix. Zaki is a rather large neutered male; 34 inches at the shoulders and 135 pounds - and still growing!
Mr. Zaki has had quite an interesting life; he was brought up by the Sisters at a Monastery in southeastern Arizona! Zaki does display a sort of calmness and gentleness about him that is inspiring, and he is extraordinarily gentle around children and critters. He is also wonderfully trained to just "follow" while chores are being performed and he is friendly, but reserved, when visitors come. He's even been trained to carry weight in his backpack and to pull a cart (loaded with veggies from the garden), making him a wonderful handyman/dog!
Totally housebroken, Zaki is both an indoor and outdoor dog. He sits before being fed and would never take food that was not his! He also loves going for rides and walks reliably around the extensive property unleashed, and he does not challenge fences. Zaki also waits for you to go out a door before exiting. Heck, I bet he would even pull your dinner chair out for you!
Zaki takes his "other" responsibilities seriously, too. No pushover when it comes to the protection of what is "his," Zaki guards his goats and sheep with an experienced paw. The Sisters always felt extremely safe from all predators when Zaki was on night duty.
Obviously the Sisters did a remarkable job of training and socializing Zaki, but there is one thing they could not overcome: his dislike for male dogs. Zaki adores and plays friskily with females, but when it comes to those other boys, watch out! When it became increasingly difficult for the Sisters to keep Zaki away from other males, AZPyrs Rescue was called upon.
Zaki's perfect home? He is "praying" for a place with a nice sized property (preferably with some grass!), children to play with, perhaps some goats, socialization opportunities and NO male dogs! As Zaki adores people, he would not be happy being a full time live stock guardian.
